Dose / fx calculates equivalent dose / fractionation schemes according to the time-independent Linear Quadratic (LQ) model. It is based on the radiobiology concept of Biologically Effective Dose (BED), which depends on the number of fractions (n), dose per fraction (d), and alpha-beta ratio (α/β) of the tissue in question:
BED = nd (1 + (d / (α/β)))
It provides a theoretical means of equating the cell damage from radiation when the radiation is delivered according to different schedules. Healthy tissue, malignant tissue, early and late effects are differentiated by the alpha-beta ratio.
It is important to note that dose / fx is intended for academic purposes.
